Welcome to Off the Shelf 2010

9 October - 30 October 2010

Now in its 19th year, Sheffield's Off the Shelf Festival of Writing and Reading is well established as one of the major events in Sheffield and the region's cultural calendar. The festival has grown into one of the largest, most popular and exciting events in the North of England attracting some of the best known names in literature and the media.

The festival offers a wide range of events for audiences of all ages including readings, workshops, storytelling, exhibitions, talks, walks, poetry and much more. Previous festivals have included appearances by Tony Benn, John Pilger, St Arnold Wesker, Kate Adie, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Ben Okri, Rose Tremaine, Claire Tomalin, Sarah Waters, Nick Hornby, Simon Armitage, Benjamin Zephaniah, Doris Lessing, Michael Frayn, Hilary Mantel, Ian Rankin, Jamie Oliver, Michael Rosen, Anthony Browne, Jacqueline Wilson and Stephen Fry to name just a few.

Off the Shelf is very popular with more than 20,000 attending festival events. The festival received excellent feedback from authors, publishers and audiences alike. In the audience survey carried out at the 2008 Festival, 95% thought that the event attended was good or excellent, 94% thought it offered excellent or god value for money and 95% rated the quality of the overall Festival programme excellent or good. In addition 32% attended more than one event and 22% attended five or more events.
