Welcome to Off the Shelf

Sheffield’s Annual Celebration of Writing and Reading

8th – 29th October 2011

In 2011 Sheffield's Off the Shelf Festival of Writing and Reading will celebrate it's 20th year.  The festival is well established as one of the major events in Sheffield and the region's cultural calendar and audiences also attend from all over the UK. The festival has grown into one of the largest, most popular and exciting events in the North of England attracting some of the best known names in literature and the media.

The festival offers a wide range of events for audiences of all ages including readings, workshops, storytelling, exhibitions, talks, walks, poetry and much more. The 2010 festival offered events with Alastair Campbell, Tony Benn, Fatima Bhutto, David Starkey, Audrey Niffenegger, Simon Armitage, Tim Butcher, Val NcDermid, Jonathan Coe and David Peace to name just a few.  Previous festivals have included appearances by John Pilger, St Arnold Wesker, Kate Adie, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Ben Okri, Rose Tremaine, Claire Tomalin, Sarah Waters, Nick Hornby, Simon Armitage, Benjamin Zephaniah, Doris Lessing, Michael Frayn, Hilary Mantel, Ian Rankin, Jamie Oliver, Michael Rosen, Anthony Browne, Jacqueline Wilson and Stephen Fry.

The festival receives excellent feedback from authors, publishers and audiences alike.   Feedback from the 2010 audience survey will be posted on this page as soon as the information is available.
