Black Women Write Now

Back in February we were delighted to ask Désirée Reynolds to curate a strand of events for the festival focussing on the voices of black women. Here is a statement from Désirée and a list of the events to look out for:
“I needed to celebrate, to look up for a moment and revel in what was happening with Black Women’s writing. No one could’ve predicted it. Black Women’s Writing is undergoing unprecedented exposure and being here now, compared to even five years ago is to look
at this brilliant, vibrant, eclectic landscape in awe. I wanted to honour this moment.
So here is only a small portion of what I think shows us, as readers and writers where we are. Poetry, fiction, lifestyle, journalism, short story. It was a joy to do this, to contact some sheroes of mine, acquaintances and close friends, perhaps a first for an event in the North, I’m grateful they said yes. We curate community.”
