This extraordinary debut novel, shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2021, is set in Barbados and tells a compelling story about four people each desperate to escape their legacy of violence in a so-called “paradise”. Intricately plotted, atmospheric and hard hitting this is a tale of loss and trauma but also of love and survival that will stay with you long after you finish reading. Cherie Jones is a lawyer based in Barbados. She studied Creative Writing at Sheffield Hallam University in 2015.
Conor O’Callaghan is a writer and teaches Creative Writing at Sheffield Hallam University.
