People’s Republic of South Yorkshire – Helen Jackson

Artwork Slide

Sun, 24 October 6:00pm

Former Labour MP Helen Jackson looks back at the Sheffield city landscape at a significant and progressive time in its history 1970-1992.  Helen’s historical narrative merges with her reflections as a woman in politics.  Focused on the local, the memoir holds wider lessons for national and global politics for our times.  This panel event includes three women featured in the book – Isabella Stone, Cathy Burke and Roz Wollen who will discuss with Helen, and the audience, how class solidarity translated into creative, radical local initiatives with fairness at the core.

Chaired by Patrick Seyd, Emeritus of Politics at the University of Sheffield and introduced by Lord David Blunkett.
