Sun, 18 October 1:00pm
This new book presents the results of the University of Sheffield’s exciting project to rewrite the story of Sheffield castle. Based on their archival researches, and on the most recent excavations, the book charts the origins, demise and ‘afterlife’ of England’s unknown castle. It highlights the importance of the tax official, the cutler and the surveyor who excavated it, and stresses its significance for the future regeneration of Castlegate.
John Moreland is Professor of Medieval Archaeology at the University of Sheffield. Dawn Hadley is Professor of Medieval Archaeology at the University of York.
