The Green World of the 17th Century – Professor Lisa Hopkins and Crosby Stevens

Artwork Slide

Tue, 15 October 7:00pm

The High Great Chamber at Hardwick Hall and the Elysium Closet at Bolsover Castle transport the viewer to the interior forest. Shakespeare’s comedies offer a trip to a ‘green world’ where problems are solved. This beautifully illustrated talk looks at the use of landscape in 17th century literature and art with reference to the Cavendish family. Lisa Hopkins teaches at Sheffield Hallam University, Crosby Stevens is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Sheffield.
