Live with Sheffield Laureate – Otis Mensah & guests – Monday 7 October, 8pm – Theatre Deli

Otis Mensah is Sheffield’s first poet laureate, as appointed by former Sheffield Lord Mayor Magid Magid.

A hip-hop artist who has performed at Glastonbury this ‘story-teller-rapper-poet’, as he describes himself, born and bred in Sheffield, has built a global reputation.

Otis has said he wants to use his role “to break down barriers to poetry, smash the stuffy stereotype and remind people that poetry is meant to be ‘for the people’.

“There’s a certain idea of elitism attached to poetry” he continues. “But poetry dates back as one of the oldest forms of storytelling. It’s for the people to express how they feel and their issues with society.”

Join Otis and his invited guest poets Raluca de Soleil, Birdspeed and Dami thegannette Okhiria as they prepare to do that just that.

Associate Partner: Béton House, Park Hill by Alumno Group.
