Poet Roger McGough Recites ‘Twinned with Mars’
The first full version of the series of videos and audio recordings that celebrate our unique Text in The City initiative features Roger McGough, who agreed to recite his poem ‘Twinned with Mars’ that he was commissioned to write for the festival in 2006. His poem is on display in the Winter Gardens in Sheffield city centre.
Roger says: “I’ve been involved in Off the Shelf almost from the beginning. I’ve always had a fondness for Sheffield as I played the Sheffield Crucible and other venues when I was with the Scaffold. Always enjoyed it. So when Off the Shelf first invited me to read poetry at the festival many years ago – I said ‘yes please’ as you’re always guaranteed a good audience – a kind audience.”
