Zadie Smith 3.10.2019

Zadie Smith inspired her audience as she spoke for a live podcast recording for Literacy Fiction to discuss her first-ever short story collection, Grand Union, last night at the City Hall, as part of the Off the Shelf festival.

Zadie spoke deeply, emotively and empathetically about modern issues from cultural appropriation to identity and inner conflict.

She spoke of the importance of one’s true self and how the digital age, people’s perceptions and our own self-reflection can change that.

Whilst speaking thoughtfully about the use of language and how we all help an author construct their work, explaining that language is owned by all, she also kept jer audience laughing.

An entertaining and insightful talk on the issues we each face in the world of today.
